As you may know, Black Friday is the first official day of the holiday shopping season and the biggest shopping day of the year. Shoppers nationwide stand for hours overnight in the freezing cold, all for a chance to be the first to snag the best deals at multinational chain stores (VIDEO). Inundated with nonstop commercials and advertising, it is easy to see why Americans spend their hard-earned money at major retailers. But did you know that only 43¢ of every dollar spent in a big chain store is reinvested in the local economy? [Source]

Here are just a few ways locally owned businesses help the Reno community and economy:

Positive Economic Impact
When you shop with locally owned businesses, 68¢ out of every dollar is reinvested locally.

Local Businesses = Jobs
Small businesses account for the largest share of net new jobs generated each year, and locally based business provide some of the most stable employment opportunities in a community. For all their economic power, the number of jobs provided by global corporations relative to the world’s workforce is small. [Source]

Local Business Leaders Invest in Our Community
Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community, and are more invested in the community’s future.

Your Taxes Are Put to Good Use
Local businesses in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally owned stores entering the community.

See you on Friday, bright and early!
