Occupy Foreclosures
With Nevada being the Foreclosure Capital of the United States, it is time for us Nevadans to lead the charge against fraudulent foreclosures. We must bring public attention to the predatory lending practices that artificially inflated the prices of our homes. We must expose the greed inherent in our system that has reduced our livelihoods to mere commodities to be exchanged on Wall Street. We must remind the people that it was us, the working class, that bailed out our pseudo-landlords when their counterfeit pricing structure collapsed and we must empower our neighbors to join us. United we will stand against the tyranny of a system that values profits over people. Together, we are more powerful than greed. Together, we will force those who try to oppress us to play by our rules. Our strength is in unity.
In solidarity with the National Occupy Foreclosure movement (12/6/2011), we have scheduled the following events:
- 10:30am: Join Occupy Reno as we assemble at Fairly Grounded Coffee (170 S. Virginia St) We will depart shortly afterwards to protest and fight back against the foreclosure auction happening across the street at Washoe County Courthouse.
- 4:45pm: Continuing with the National Day of Action against wrongful foreclosures, Occupy Reno will hold a protest in Reno’s financial district (Virginia & Liberty St.)
- 6:00pm: Occupy Reno will be hosting an informational session (1301 Cordone Ave. Reno, NV 89502) to provide different tactics that can be deployed to help fight unlawful foreclosures. Receive legal counsel to stop the foreclosure proceedings and stay in your home! Don’t own a home? Get copies of the laws that allow you to legally occupy and win the title to vacant property. A list of do’s and dont’s will be provided to avoid breaking the law.
These scheduled events are only the beginning of our Occupy Foreclosure campaign. This could be the spearhead of Nevada’s Occupy Movement. Stay tuned for updates…
